How To Be Safe When Meeting Someone From MySpace

Many young people enjoy MySpace because it allows them to network with friends or other people on the internet. However, it is important to take safety precautions. There are a number of common sense things you can do to protect yourself when you are using the MySpace website, and there are some precautions you will want to take if you decide to meet someone from MySpace in person. Many young people make the mistake of lying about their age, and this can make them the targets of pedophiles or criminals.

Though the administrators at MySpace have taken steps to stop older members from contacting young teenagers, it is not possible for them to control everything. Older users can lie about their age as well. Some of the members at MySpace have been sent hideous messages, and some have even found themselves in dangerous situations. The first thing you will want to do when using MySpace is to make sure you never list personal information in your profile. MySpace is a public website, and most of your information can be seen by other users. If you list information such as your address or phone number, you are putting yourself in a dangerous position.

Members who visit MySpace will often notice a number of pictures that they will find to be uncomfortable. Some of these images may be pornographic, while others will be extreme images of violence. One of the biggest problems with MySpace is that employers can find out about the surfing habits of their employees, and may be able to look at your MySpace profile. If you decide to meet someone from MySpace in the real world, you will want to make sure you meet in a public place. It will also be a good idea for your to bring along friends of family members.

Before you go meet this person, let your friends and family know exactly where you will be going. Keep a cell phone handy so that you can call for help if their is an emergency. Inform the person you will be meeting that you are bringing people with you, and assist on the meeting taking place at a public location. If the individual does not agree, or appears to have a problem with it, this is a sign that they mave have sinister intentions for meeting you, and you will want to avoid them at all costs. Always strive to keep your profile private, never give out your personal information to anyone under any circumstances.

While social networking sites like MySpace are changing the way people communicate, they also have dark sides that need to be avoided. Parents who have teenagers will want to constantly monitor their online activities. You should always know who they are chatting with, and if you notice anything suspicious, you will want to take action as quickly as possible. If you children are receiving threats, you should report the people who are sending them. If your children are teenagers, they will not like you monitoring them. Despite this, taking the steps to protect them can save their lives.

"Post of the people that I have on myspace list are people I know in real life or have known through letters and talked on the phone for years (and plan on meeting them). I don't add people that I don't know."

"Many peeps there lie about their age but that won't really harm anyone. Peeps should know whom they should trust and whom they should not. Advices are indeed needed especially for kids who lie about their age there. Listen kids, don't get your mind dirtied by peeps who have 'rusty' mind! Be safe and be warned! However, it's not that bad."
