MySpace Overview

MySpace is a popular social networking site that offers MP3s, videos, blogs, photos, and profiles. In addition to this, the website also has an email system. As of 2006, MySpace is one of the most popular websites in the entire world. The company has approximately 300 employees, and the website is now owned by Newscorp. The revenue that is generated by the website is strictly private, and the company will not disclose any information that is related to profits. As of this writing, MySpace has a grand total of 100 million users. Statistics also show that MySpace is growing at a rate of 500,000 users per week.

While the headquarters of MySpace is still Los Angeles, California, the primary company that owns it is based in New York City. In addition to simply being a social networking site, MySpace has led to a number of innovations. Independent filmmakers and musicians are using the website heavily to promote their work. In addition to independent filmmakers, some mainstream artists have seen the benefit of using MySpace as well. Before MySpace became the popular social networking site that exists today, it was owned by a file sharing company in the late 1990s.

MySpace was not popular at first, and the domain was eventually sold in 2001. The modern MySpace was founded in 2003. One of the developers was the current CEO Chris DeWolfe. While the website was originally owned by Intermix Media, it was eventually purchased by News Corporation, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch. As of 2006, plans have been launched for a MySpace site that is based in the United Kingdom. Each profile in MySpace will contain an "About Me" and "Who I'd Like to Meet" portion. Members can put their interests in their profile, and they may also add information about themselves such as their marital status or income.

However, if members wish to keep their information private, they are welcome to do so. Blogs have been added to the profiles, and users can add more detailed information about themselves. MySpace also allows users to upload photographs and images. The videos which are uploaded can be played on the Flash player. It is also possible for users to choose a specific number of friends that they can display. The layout of the profile my use either CSS or HTML. One of the most unique features of MySpace is that users are able to modify their pages to various degrees. These modifications must be done using either CSS or HTML. Music can be added, and the look of the profile can be greatly altered.

Near the "Top Friends" section is a space where the comments of friends can be added. While it is not a good idea to put personal information in this section, most people do it anyway. This information is publicly available, and anyone can see it. However, MySpace does give users the options to delete their comments. In addition to this, some users can have comments approved before they can be posted.
